Meth Registry On The Way

A state Senate committee today may consider a bill creating a Michigan methamphetamine abuse registry. Under the proposal from Senate Republican John Proos of St. Joseph, anyone convicted of a meth-related crime would be required to get a prescription before being allowed to buy any simple cold medicine that contains pseudoephedrine (SOO-doh-ef-ED-rin) Pseudoephedrine is a key ingredient in making meth. There are already caps on the amount that any person is allowed to buy over a certain period.Overall in 2012, police seized 325 meth labs in the state, according to a report from the Michigan State Police.
