Water Walk Concludes Successfully

A three-day journey to raise awareness about water quality that began in Copper Harbor ended in Baraga yesterday.

The 90-mile People of the Heart Water Walk was coordinated by the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, in accordance with Anishinaabe tradition.

Participant Kathleen Chosa says that tradition assigns water protection to women…

To that end, only women carried the copper vessel that contained a sample of Lake Superior water.

For Chosa and the KBIC, this isn’t just a tribal issue…

Walkers alternated in 30-minute shifts until the walk concluded yesterday afternoon at Sand Point.
