Tire Cleanup Money Coming to Region

There’s some state money coming to the Upper Peninsula to promote tire recycling.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is giving $70,000 to the Superior Watershed Partnership to use across the peninsula, and $4,000 to the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.

The money will be used to clean up old tire dumps, and set up recycling events. Improperly discarded, scrap tires are a fire hazard, and a breeding ground for mosquitos.

They can be recycled for use in asphalt, mulch in gardens and playgrounds, and manufacturing processes.
