Fake Opioid Pills Pose Lethal Danger

As if the opioid epidemic wasn’t bad enough, the Drug Enforcement Administration now says that Mexican drug cartels are flooding the Midwest with fake pills.

Most often, the counterfeits contain fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that can be fatal, even in small amounts.

DEA Field Division Special Agent in Charge Keith Martin says the pills look so good that it takes a pharmacist to tell they’re fake. But, in the first three months of 2019, 27 percent of the pills seized contained potentially lethal doses of fentanyl.

Officials warn that – if you don’t know where that pill came from – don’t take it.
