Markkanen Calls for Pure Michigan Campaign Restoration

The first round of budget adjustments following Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s vetoes in late September includes money for rural hospitals, sheriff’s patrols, and isolated school districts.

Those are likely to be approved this week.

It does not include money for the Pure Michigan tourism campaign, which has helped drive visitors from downstate Michigan and Wisconsin to the Copper Country for the past 11 years.

State Representative Greg Markkanen is hoping that a second round of supplemental budget bills might fix that…

Reports from Lansing, however, seem to indicate that the campaign is not a high priority. It is opposed by the powerful conservative Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
