Gay Marriages are “Void”

Michigan Attorney General BIll Schuette says the nearly 300 gay marriages conducted in the state in March are now “void,” following the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals decision upholding Michigan’s ban on same-sex marriage. The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals last week overturned a March ruling by U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman that struck down the state’s ban. Nearly 300 marriage certificates were issued to gay couples in Michigan within the short period between Friedman’s decision and a stay on same-sex marriages issued by the Appeals Court. MLive reports Schuette argues that the marriages were conditionally valid, the condition being that the appellate court upheld the District Court decision in the case, which it did not.
