Invasive Species Grant Money Headed to Western U.P.

A number of environmental protection projects in the western Upper Peninsula have received money from the state. Among those getting cash from the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program are…

  • Michigan State University, which will receive $228,600 to identify knotweed species in several counties, including Houghton. Information will be used to introduce a biocontrol agent.
  • The Iron Baraga Conservation District, which will receive $94,000 to support the Western Peninsula Invasive Species Coalition.
  • Michigan Technological University, which will receive $60,000 to enhance educational programs and provide technical support for the Keweenaw Invasive Species Management Area.
