Two Michigan Children Die from Influenza

Two Michigan children have died from influenza.

They are the first pediatric deaths reported in our state this flu season. 32 pediatric deaths have been recorded nationwide.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reports that the children lived in Shiawassee and Wayne Counties.

MDHHS chief medical executive and chief deputy for health Dr. Joneigh Khaldun says it’s not too late for Michiganders to get their flu shots. Vaccinations are recommended for almost everyone over six months of age. They are especially important for children, seniors, and those with underlying health conditions.

MDHHS reports that Michigan has experienced widespread flu activity over the past few weeks.

All three UP Health System locations continue to restrict visitors because of illness in our region. Aspirus Keweenaw and Baraga County Memorial Hospitals are not restricting visitors.
