Governor Whitmer Signs Agreement To Expand Unemployment Benefits

Governor Whitmer has announced new programs for workers adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the federal CARES Act, the Governor signed an agreement with The U.S. Department of Labor to implement the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Compensation programs to grant benefits to workers who are not qualified to receive unemployment benefits from the state.

The workers covered under this agreement include the self employed, independent contractors and low wage workers who can no longer work due to the pandemic.

Workers are now eligible for an increase to $600 a week, and that is now available for 39 weeks, up from 26 weeks.

The online filing schedule and toll free number to register is 866-500-0017.
