Governor Whitmer Closes Schools For Remainder Of School Year

Governor Whitmer held a press conference earlier today, to update Michiganders on the latest in the COVID-19 battle.

She began by saying the state has received 400 ventilators from the Strategic National Stockpile, and that per President Trump, more are on the way.

Detroit will be one of the first cities to get 5 COVID-19 testing machines, along with 5,000 test kits.

The machines can give results for a COVID-19 test within 15 minutes, and will be used primarily to test police, firefighters, EMS and Department of Transportation workers.

The Army and National Guard will also be used for the next 90 days, to help perform various tasks such as distributing food, and maintaining supply lines.

She also noted the Big 3 have also helped out with producing personal protective gear, and ventilators.

And it is official, all K-12 schools in Michigan, are now closed for the remainder of the school year.

Governor Whitmer had this to say regarding school closings and what’s next for school districts and students.

All school employees will continue to be paid through the remainder of the school year.

The Governor also addressed the state’s unemployment insurance website, which is overwhelmed, due to the influx of claims.

Chief Health Officer Joneigh Khaldun, had this to say regarding the coming weeks in Michigan.

Governor Whitmer also called for continued bipartisanship, while the battle against COVID-19 rages on.
