Protection for Domestic Violence Victims

Legislation allowing people holding a personal protection order to carry a concealed weapon in gun-free zones is before the State House. Saginaw Township Republican Tim Kelly says the victims of domestic violence and stalking need the extra protection from those who would attempt to harm them. Kelly says the victims, 85 percent of whom are women, already qualify for temporary concealed weapon permits. The extra protection is now available to retired police officers and others with law enforcement backgrounds. The legislation will be scheduled for a hearing by the House Judiciary Committee in Lansing.
