COVID-19 Could Cancel 45th Annual Canal Run

The Upper Peninsula’s premier running event is in danger of being cancelled.

The 45th annual Canal Run, scheduled to take place on July 19th, may be cancelled, due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event, started in 1975, features a half marathon, 10 mile run, 5 mile run and a two mile walk.

Wheelchair divisions are also part of the event.

The race is self sufficient, covering all expenses from registration fees and sponsorships.

They’ve even raised enough that they’ve donated over $10,000 to local charities since 2011.

So far, the race is still on, but that could change, depending on the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

Early bird registration has been extended until June 1st.

A link to the race website is here.
