Poll Shows Support for Renewable Energy

A new poll shows strong public support for requiring Michigan’s utilities to generate 30 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2035. The survey commissioned by advocates of the greater use of renewable energy in the state showed 69 percent in support of such a goal with 23 percent in opposition. 71 percent support requiring utilities to offer more programs that allow consumers to make affordable energy efficiency upgrades to their homes or businesses. 38 percent of those surveyed want the state to dump coal as a source of energy while 30 percent are opposed to nuclear power. 35 percent favor wind and 23 percent lean toward natural gas as the sources of energy in Michigan.
