Houghton To Receive New Sewer And Water Lines

Through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program, close to $2 million will be coming to Houghton, to improve water and sewer lines.

Houghton’s existing sewer system is over 100 years old, and in need of replacement.

While the lines are replaced, MDOT will also be replacing the roads over the new water and sewer lines.

Other things set to be replaced include the  water tank, wells and the treatment plant.

The upgraded system will serve close to 4,000 residents.

In all, 10 Michigan rural communities will receive funding, Manistique, is the other Upper Peninsula city, which is part of the program.
