Amnesty Period For Lapsed Car Insurance

If your car insurance has lapsed, no need to worry.

Michigan’s Department of Insurance and Financial Services, has announced an amnesty period, which is part of the new auto insurance law, set to kick in on July 1st.

You’re urged to start shopping now, for the amnesty period, which starts on July 2nd.

DIFS Director Anita Fox said now is the time to get coverage, without penalties.

Insurance companies can no longer charge reinstatement fees, limit coverage or increase premiums if insurance lapses, under the new law.

Fox also noted that Michigan has had a disproportionate number of uninsured drivers, and that the new law eliminates barriers that were keeping drivers from getting insurance.
