Houser, Brewers Shut Down Sox – Thursday Sports Wrap

Adrian Houser’s strong start led the Milwaukee Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox last evening. Houser gave up just five hits over seven innings to earn the win. There will be no NCAA Division II fall sports championship tournaments this year. The DII President’s Council made the decision yesterday. 11 of the 23 Division II conferences have already canceled all their fall sports programs. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is still hoping to stage its league games, but has called off non-conference contests.

Yesterday, the Big 10 released a revised schedule of conference-only football games that could begin as early as Labor Day. League officials, however, cautioned that games could be delayed, or not played at all, depending on COVID-19 status. Also yesterday, the University of Connecticut became the first FBS college to cancel all of its fall football games.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers have claimed fullback John Lovett off of waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs. Lovett is a second-year player out of Princeton, where he played quarterback. He spent his first year on injured reserve.

The Detroit Lions have brought receiver Kenny Golladay back from the COVID-19 list. Center Russell Bodine has become the third Lion to opt out of the season, joining defensive tackle John Atkins and wide receiver Geronimo Allison on the sideline.

As concerns about COVID-19 exposure grow, the National Football League Players Association has set up a confidential tip line that members can call if they feel team management is bypassing any of the safety rules.
