Houghton City Council Meeting Recap

Houghton’s Planning Commission has a new member.

This from last night’s city council meeting.

Jennifer Julien has been appointed.

The Zoning Board of Appeals granted a variance request for the home on 711 W. Calverley, so the homeowner can build a new garage.

Several residents spoke of the Lakeshore Referendum from Primary Election night, and the council came back with they have not yet made a decision, but that when the time comes, public input will be accepted.

City Manager Eric Waara had an update on what’s happening in the city.

He also had this to say regarding Walmart, trying to lower their tax bill.

Police Chief John Donnelly gave an update on his officers.

The Council also voted on purchasing a new dump truck, until a council member asked if the new truck comes with the box? No one was sure the answer, so the purchase then became contingent on whether or not the box comes with the truck.

A resolution for the Fire Department to purchase a new breathing air compressor was also passed.

Ryan Salaani was also added to the Fire Department.

The meeting wrapped up with the council voting to have a public meeting in regards to Veridia and the Lakeshore Drive Redevelopment Committee.
