• Ontonagon travels to Stephenson for a 1:00 game.
The suspension of face-to-face instruction in Houghton County schools that begins Monday will also include cancellation of athletic activities during that stretch. At this time, the suspension does not include schools in Baraga or Ontonagon Counties.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers came back from an early deficit, but lost to the Kansas City Royals 8-7 last evening. Michael Fulmer’s struggles continued. He gave up three runs in the first inning, and was charged with a fourth before leaving in the third inning. Willi Castro and Miguel Cabrera hit home runs to bring the Tigers back, but KC scored four times off Tyler Alexander and Gregory Soto in the sixth to reclaim the advantage. Detroit made it close with three runs in the top of the eighth.
The loss dropped Detroit into last place in the American League Central Division.
The Tigers continue their final scheduled series of the season tonight at Kansas City. Spencer Turnbull will pitch against Brad Keller. Coverage begins at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
First baseman Jeimer Candelario left last night’s game with tightness in his lower back. He’s considered day-to-day.
The Milwaukee Brewers lost 4-2 to the Saint Louis Cardinals last evening. Corbin Burnes gave up a run in the second, and a two-run homer in the third, then left the game with back tightness.
The Brewers will try to keep their fading playoff hopes alive as they play a doubleheader at Saint Louis beginning late this afternoon. Brent Suter will start against Jack Flaherty in the opener, and Josh Lindblom will face Daniel Ponce de Leon in the nightcap.
Milwaukee pitcher Freddy Peralta has been placed on paternity leave. Eric Lauer has been brought up from the taxi squad to fill in.
NHL
The Stanley Cup championship series continues tonight, with the Lightning leading the Stars 2-1.
NBA
The Lakers defeated the Nuggets 114-108 last night, to take a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference final. Game four will be played tomorrow night.
Tonight, the Heat could close out the Eastern Conference final. Miami leads the Celtics 3-1.
NFL
In last night’s game, the Dolphins ripped the Jaguars 31-13.
The Detroit Lions visit the Arizona Cardinals for a 4:25 game on Sunday. The Packers take on the Saints in the Sunday night contest. Hear both games on 99.3 The Lift.
College
The Pac 10 conference is bringing football back. Member schools will play a seven-game regular season, beginning November 6th. The Mountain West Conference has also decided to reinstate a fall football season, with games set to begin October 24th. The only remaining FBS league that is still not back on the fall football schedule is the Mid American Conference. Officials have been reviewing the situation, and an announcement is expected soon.
