NMU 2020-2021 Budget Shrinks Slightly

Northern Michigan University’s budget for the 2020-2021 fiscal year will shrink by about one percent.

The board of trustees approved the spending plan on Friday.

Despite the overall shrinkage, money for scholarships and fellowships will increase by nearly $300,000.

The board also ratified a new two-year contract with 130 members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union. Those workers who provide food services, maintenance and police protection approved the agreement a week ago.

It provides a one percent lump sum bonus payment for this year. There will be no increase next year, although the deal includes an option to revisit that, if the university’s financial position improves.
