U.P. Unemployment Rate Steady in November

The unemployment rate in the Upper Peninsula held steady at 4.2 percent in November. 

The seasonally-unadjusted numbers show the number of people working in the U.P. fell by 2,000 compared to October, to 132,100. The number of people included in the labor force also fell by 2,000.

The number officially listed as unemployed remained at 5,900.

The 4.2 percent rate for November was slightly higher than the 4.1 percent rate recorded in November, 2019.

Individually, Houghton County is faring well, with a 3.5 percent unemployment rate – that’s the sixth-best in the state.

Other counties in the Copper Country are in the bottom half of the rankings, with Keweenaw County at 5.1 percent, Ontonagon County at 5.5 percent, and Baraga County at 6.4 percent.

Clinton County had the best unemployment rate in the state. Wayne County had the worst, at 11.3 percent.
