UP Health System – Portage not allowing inpatient visitors

A new zero visitor policy has been implemented at UP Health System – Portage for inpatient units. The release did not give a reason for the change and it is unclear if it is COVID-19 related. At last check, the hospital census showed six patients with the virus, zero in intensive care. That represents 50% capacity for the ward. Keweenaw Report has placed a call with UP Health for further explanation and is still waiting to hear back.

Patients for all other units including ambulatory appointments are allowed one guest. All visitors must be over 18 years of age, willing to undergo a health screening, and comply with the mandatory masking policy.
