Unemployment Lowest in More Than A Decade

Michigan’s unemployment in December fell to its lowest level in more than 12 years. The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget says the jobless rate last month was down by four-tenths of a percentage point to 6.3 percent. That’s the lowest monthly rate for the state since the November 2002 rate of 6.2 percent. The state’s labor force was little changed over the month. Total employment rose in December by 21,000 as the number of unemployed dropped by 21,000. The Michigan jobless rate in December was two full percentage points below the state’s December 2013 rate of 8.3 percent. The national unemployment rate last month was 5.6 percent.
