Calumet Volleyball Wins Regional Crown – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

The Calumet High School volleyball team reigns as regional champions, after a hard-fought 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) victory over Elk Rapids last night. The Copper Kings advance to the quarterfinals. They’ll face McBain, which swept Beaverton 3-0 last night. The game will be played Tuesday at 6:00 at Grayling High School, which is six hours from Calumet, and one hour from McBain. Our coverage will begin at 5:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

Calumet will face Standish-Sterling in the football tournament regional finals tomorrow. The game will start at 1:00 at Standish-Sterling Central High School. Coverage will begin at 12:40 on the Home of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

The eight-player football semifinals will be held tomorrow. Two U.P. teams remain in the field.
• In Division One, Rudyard plays at Suttons Bay. Martin plays at Lenawee Christian.
• In Division Two, North Central hosts Marion. Colon plays at Au Gres-Sims.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team plays two against Northern Michigan University this weekend. Tonight’s game is at 7:07 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Tomorrow’s contest will be played in Marquette.

The Finlandia University men’s hockey team will host Aurora University tonight at 7:15, and tomorrow at 4:00. Veterans and active service members get in free.

The Finlandia women’s team skates at Aurora tomorrow and Sunday.

College Football

The Michigan Tech football team hopes to wrap up a winning season when they host Saginaw Valley State tomorrow at 1:00.

The Northern football team closes its season at home against Northwood University.

The Finlandia football squad concludes its season downstate at Olivet College.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan women’s basketball teams begin their seasons at the NMU Invitational this weekend. The Huskies will face Lewis University tomorrow, and William Jewell University Sunday. The Wildcats will play William Jewell tomorrow, and Lewis on Sunday.

The Tech and NMU men’s teams both compete at the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge at Lewis University. The Huskies will face McKendree tonight, and the host team tomorrow. The Wildcats will play the host team tonight, and McKendree tomorrow.

The Finlandia University men’s basketball team visits Carthage College Sunday. The Lions have been picked to finish last in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference this season. Members of the C2C do not play each other during the regular season. Standings are determined by each team’s wins, losses, and strength of schedule, and a post-season tournament.

The Finlandia women’s team has the weekend off.

College Volleyball

The Tech volleyball team will end its regular season on the road, against Saginaw Valley State tonight, and Wayne State tomorrow night.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team has introduced its incoming class. The new Huskies are…
• Katie Jude, a goalkeeper from Bexley, Ohio.
• Brianna Barrows, a goalkeeper from Oxford, Michigan.
• Olivia Gette, from North Oaks, Minnesota.
• Clara Murchison, from Portland, Oregon.
• Sisters Alyvia and Makenna Sanom, from Berkley, Michigan.
• Sisters Taylor and Jordan Noble from Boyne City, Michigan, who are both transferring in from Muskegon Community College.

The Finlandia women’s soccer team has also added a new recruit. Anaya Arretche averages more than a goal per game for Alta Loma High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings’ three-game win streak ended with a 2-0 loss to the Washington Capitals last night. Thomas Greiss made 27 saves, but took the loss in net.

The Wings host the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

In last night’s NFL contest, the Miami Dolphins defeated the Baltimore Ravens 24-10. 

The Detroit Lions visit the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 1:00 game Sunday. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

The Green Bay Packers will host the Seattle Seahawks in a 4:25 game Sunday.
