C-L-K schools receive two large donations

At the last Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw School District Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Chris Davidson announced two sizable donations, both over $100,000.

Stephen Danis’ gift will allow for the purchase of “a plasma cutter and a Wazer waterjet cutter for the Industrial Arts Program.” Additionally, Davidson says it will help Calumet High School to transform an unutilized portion of the building into a study lounge for students.

A shop will be installed, selling coffee and other small purchase items.

Paul and Barb Horton have continued their support for Horizons Alternative School in Mohawk. The couple have been instrumental in the building’s success, and are now turning to options to aid its students.

Davidson says the district is preparing to make an announcement of a gift of roughly $1,000,000 in the days ahead.
