SLACK Donates 6,000 Books to the Great Start Collaborative

A group of local students collected 6,000 books last month. In March, the Student Leadership Advisory Council of the Keweenaw held book drives at schools in Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw counties. Hancock school collected the most books for the event, amassing 2,857 books in total. Students then donated all 6,000 books to the Great Start Collaborative. The collaborative’s goal is to increase family access to literacy materials in their homes. The Student Leadership Advisory Council of the Keweenaw, also known as SLACK, mission aims to bridge the gap between communities in the Copper Country by developing leadership skills and engaging students to become involved in the community.
