GM Recall Probe

A U.S. House committee is launching a probe of an expanded General Motors recall. Lawmakers in Washington want to know if GM officials and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration failed to detect an ignition switch problem that caused at least 13 deaths over several years. A key issue is that documents submitted to the NHTSA show some GM engineers knew about the problem ten years ago but didn’t treat it as a serious safety concern. GM only issued its recall last month for Chevy Cobalts and Pontiac G5s. The recall now covers six GM models and nearly one-point-four million vehicles.
