Vehicle Fire Briefly Closes M-26

M-26 in eastern Houghton County was closed briefly Saturday afternoon because of a truck fire.

The Twin Lakes Fire Department was called out around 4:30. They found a gravel truck burning on the northbound lane shoulder two-and-a-half miles south of Twin Lakes State Park.

Traffic was stopped for about 20 minutes, until the blaze was extinguished.

Officials say the fire apparently began in the engine, then spread from the front of the truck to the tarpaulin covering the back.

The driver was not hurt.
