Keweenaw County Approves East Bluff Campground

Keweenaw County has approved a special use permit for the new East Bluff Campground.

East Bluff plans to set up 25 primitive campsites, along with a single privy and a hand pumped well. The privy will have a 12 watt solar light to help people see at night. The county road commission will continue to grade the private gravel road that leads to the site.

At last night’s meeting, Keweenaw commissioners set up a committee to help Sheriff Curt Pennala design a home for the county’s proposed off-road rescue program. A training facility may also be incorporated in the plan.

Discussion about a new contract between the county and sheriff’s deputies was tabled until the next meeting, to give commissioners more time to review the proposal.
