NWS Schedules Storm Spotter Training

The National Weather Service is looking for help monitoring the weather in the Keweenaw.

Storm Spotter training is scheduled for tomorrow at 6:30 at the ATDC Building at Michigan Tech.

Especially with radar’s limited effectiveness on the peninsula, Matt Zika says the Weather Service relies on residents to be their eyes and ears…

Our citizen scientists that we call them, that relay information when storms move through the area, and report rainfall, snow, and things like that.

This year’s update will focus on social media’s role in weather reporting, a recap of last year’s storms, basic radar and cloud interpretation, and weather safety and preparedness.

There’s no charge, and no advance registration is required. The presentation is open to those who might be interested in becoming a reporter, as well as those who are just interested in the weather.
