Public Forum To Discuss Hancock US-41 Road Project

A little more than a year from now, the main drag through downtown Hancock will start to look a lot different when a major road reconstruction project gets underway.

To share the plans for the US-41 reconstruction and streetscape project in the city of Hancock, the Michigan Department of Transportation along with its design consultant, OHM, will hold a public forum at the Finnish American Heritage Center Thursday, March 19th.

Residents, community stakeholders and business owners can review preliminary concept drawings and ask questions of MDOT and OHM staff members.

The plan calls for the reconstruction of about a mile of US-41 from the Portage Lake Lift Bridge to M-203.

The project area includes Front Street, Reservation Street and Quincy Street in the city of Hancock.

The project also includes the southbound US-41 connector ramp to eastbound M-26, under the Portage Lake Lift Bridge.

The streetscape work involves decorative street lighting, curb bump-outs adjacent to intersections, and tree plantings.

The project is scheduled to begin in summer 2016.
