Deer Hunters will Now Have to Register Harvests Online, DNR Introduces Mobile App to Help Outdoor Enthusiasts

There are a couple of changes coming for deer hunters this season. The biggest change being implemented by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is how hunters report their harvest. This year the DNR will have all hunters register their deer kill online, within 72 hours of harvesting a hunt, before sending the animal for processing or taxidermy. Hunters seeking Chronic-Wasting Disease (CWD) or Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) testing will also need to register their harvest, before sending their sample out for analysis. The state will still require the physical tag to mark harvests.

To help make the new registration system easier, the Michigan DNR has also introduced a new hunting and fishing app, for mobile devices. The new mobile app will help hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts; Buy hunting and fishing licenses and trail permits. Report deer or fish harvests. Look up regulations and download guides and digests. Find your license history. Check out maps with multiple layers, showing features such as shooting ranges and boat launches. And receive timely notifications from the DNR.

During the 2022 deer hunting season, there are new deer management units changes in the Upper Peninsula. Most of the changes will affect those hunting in the central and southern areas of the peninsula, with two new units that will encompass ten previous areas. You will find information on the new Deer Management Units for the Upper Peninsula starting on page 58-60 of the 2022 Deer Hunter’s Digest.
