Keweenaw County Sheriff Rescues Exhausted Hiker in Lac La Belle

A hiker was found suffering from exhaustion, after a search in Keweenaw County. On Sunday, at approximately 9:12 pm the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s department was dispatched for a report of a lost hiker near the Bare Bluff area. The female hiker became lost when hiking off the Smith Fisheries Rd. After approximately 10 hours the hiker, extremely exhausted, ended up on a secluded shoreline near Bare Bluff. Sheriff’ s Deputies along with personnel from Lac La Belle Fire Department and Keweenaw Search and Rescue (K.S.A.R.) were able to locate the female using the aid of a private boat and get her back to Bete Gris beach where other Emergency personnel were staged. The female hiker was transported by Mercy Ambulance to UP – Portage Health Systems to be treated for extreme exhaustion and other minor injuries.
