Bills Address Limits On Marijuana Influence While Driving

As the state continues to maneuver the medical marijuana law, bills introduced in the House would create a permissible amount of THC to be in a medical marijuana user’s system while driving.

One measure sponsored by Republican Klint Kesto of Commerce Township would create sentencing guidelines for those driving while impaired, and another bill, introduced by Republican Peter Lucido of Shelby Township would set the parameter.

Kesto, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, said current law indicates that any amount of THC in a person’s system means they are impaired. He says the Michigan State Police have been working on a number, five nanograms per one milliliter of blood, and that is what is in the bill.

Both bills were sent to the Judiciary Committee and Kesto said he will take the bills up as soon as he can.
