Casperson Promises To Help Paper Mill Workers

Upper Peninsula State Senator Tom Casperson says he’s ready to roll up his sleeves and look for a new employer to help the Manistique community.

The FutureMark Paper mill is closing its doors on Tuesday, putting 147 people out of work.

Casperson says that he will work with Governor Rick Snyder and the various state departments to find a way to keep that facility operating in the future, even if that means doing something other than producing recycled paper.

Meanwhile, for the people who are losing their jobs, Casperson says the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website at mitalent.org can help them find other job opportunities along with the Michigan Works office in the Manistique Service Center.
