Local COVID-19 Numbers Remain Low

COVID-19 cases remain relatively low in the Copper Country.

Figures released yesterday by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services show 34 reported cases last week in Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties. That’s lower than the 45 cases reported the previous week.

Statewide figures show an average of 1,010 daily diagnoses last week – slightly higher than the previous week. An average of 13 deaths per day because of COVID-related causes were reported statewide.

Officials caution that actual case numbers could be significantly higher. Results of home tests are frequently not reported, and some cases with mild or no symptoms can go undiagnosed. Even those experiencing no symptoms can still spread the virus to others.
