Four U.P. Counties Lose Population, One Gains

Four Upper Peninsula counties are losing population while one Copper Country county is showing growth.

A new report from the U.S. Census Bureau says Wayne County experienced the largest decline in the U.S. in terms of number of residents, between 2013 and 2014.

In Wayne county, the population declined by nearly 11,000, or 0.6%.

Six Michigan counties lost at least 1% of their population during the year.

Those counties include Ontonagon, Gogebic, Iron, Luce, Alcona and Crawford.

Five Michigan counties showed population growth of at least 1%. They were: Keweenaw, Allegan, Kent, Ottawa and Wexford.
