U.P. Employment Drops Slightly

Employment levels fell slightly across the Upper Peninsula in October.

Data released yesterday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed 127,500 U.P. residents on the job. That’s 2,400 fewer than in September, but 1,500 better than October of 2021.

Despite the drop, the regional unemployment rate held steady at 4.3 percent.

Statewide, employment levels basically held steady, with the unadjusted unemployment rate at 3.7 percent – the same as September, and eight-tenths of a point better than last October.
