Michigan’s Unemployment Rate Lowest Since 2001

Michigan’s unemployment rate in February was the lowest for the state since October 2001.

According to the Department of Technology, Management & Budget, the jobless rate fell by four-tenths of a percentage point last month to 5.9 percent.

Total employment increased by 13,000 in February, while the number of unemployed declined by 18,000. As a result, the state’s labor force edged down by 5,000 over the month.

Michigan‘s jobless rate in February was one and nine-tenths percentage points below the state’s February 2014 rate of 7.8 percent. The U.S. jobless rate last month was 5.5 percent.
