PHF Offers Mental Health Service Grants

The Portage Health Foundation is making $100,000 available to help boost mental health treatment options in the region.

PHF Executive Director Kevin Store said the grant offering was prompted by reported increases in anxiety, suicide ideation, violent crime rates and addiction issues.

In the 2018 Upper Peninsula Community Health Needs Assessment, 38 percent of residents in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties rated a shortage of mental health programs and services as a “very important” community health issue.

Organizations interested in receiving grants must apply by May 12th. The PHF suggests that Letters of Inquiry be submitted first, to determine if the proposed project meets the grant criteria. Such letters should be turned in by March 28th.
