State Cash to Help Keweenaw Co-op Expansion, Marquette Hospital Tear-down

Two Upper Peninsula projects will receive financial boosts from the state.

The Michigan Strategic Fund will provide $1.4 million to help the Keweenaw Co-op’s relocation to the former Bruno’s Motors building in downtown Hancock. The Co-op plans to expand the building by 50 percent, and maintain around 28 employees. The total cost of the project is estimated at $7.6 million.

The Fund will also provide up to $8 million to help demolish the former Marquette General Hospital, and ready the site for redevelopment. Total cost of the project is expected to be close to $13 million. The site is adjacent to Northern Michigan University, and could be used for student apartments.
