Schuette Going After Ferrelgas After Hearing Complaints

After receiving some 700 complaints alleging unfair pricing and unfair business practices in the propane industry, Attorney General Bill Schuette says he has issued civil subpoenas as part of an investigation. The subpoenas were filed in Saginaw County Circuit Court and the court ordered Ferrellgas – which was the target of many of the complaints – to provide documents and testimony to Schuette’s investigation. Michigan, and the entire nation, struggled with a shortage of propane during the winter. The shortage was due in part to farmers needing more of the gas last autumn to dry corn. Several times Governor Rick Snyder declared an emergency for northern Michigan to help ensure deliveries.
