It’s creepy and it’s kooky, it’s mysterious and spooky, it’s Halloween in the copper country. This weekend two of the area’s largest Halloween community events are taking place. Kicking off the weekend will start tonight with Boo on the Bay in L’Anse. The L’Anse Downtown Development Authority invites kids and families to enjoy an evening with apple cider, horse-drawn wagon rides, and inflatables. In the evening the Meadowevil Haunted House will tone down the scares for their kid-friendly tours starting an hour earlier at 6 pm. Followed in the evening by the big kid’s haunted house with the real scares. And Boo on the Bay will include two special performances from the Northern Witches.
Tomorrow, Sheldon Avenue in downtown Houghton will flood with thousands of kids and families dressed up in their best Halloween costumes. The 14th annual Treat Street will have various groups and small businesses from the local area passing out candy to area kids. The event acts as a safe place where kids can enjoy the classic act of trick or treating, while parents can keep a watchful eye over their children. Treat Street will also coincide with Visit Keweenaw’s Halloweenie Race and costume parade happening at 4 pm. Treat Street will run from 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow. The city of Houghton does ask that those in the area avoid parking along Sheldon Avenue during the hour before treat street so that law enforcement can begin setting up the district for the event.
