Copper City Standoff Suspect Due Back In Court Today

The suspect allegedly involved in a 12-hour standoff with police in Copper City is expected to be back in court today.

Bond for 64-year-old Jerome Michael Flum was set yesterday at $500,000 cash.

Flum will appear again in Houghton County District Court for a bond hearing to revisit that decision.

Police say Flum assaulted a utility worker who had come to the residence Wednesday morning.

When police arrived later that afternoon with a warrant for Flum…he refused to come out.

The MSP Emergency Support Team was called out after the suspect reportedly continued to make threats to law enforcement on scene.

Flum finally surrendered without incident just before 6:30 Thursday morning.

He is charged with making threats of terrorism which carries a penalty of 20 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine if convicted.

He was also charged with three counts of assaulting a utility worker and two counts malicious use of a telephone which are all misdemeanors.
