The Keweenaw Community Foundation excitedly announces the formation of a new endowment fund named for a beloved Copper Country leader and his wife. The Reverend Robert and Deloris Langseth Development Fund honors the late community leader and will support Main Street Calumet’s activities in the area. Pastor Bob as Langseth was affectionately known was married to Deloris in June 1958. Deloris was an elementary school teacher before retiring. Langseth led the congregation at Faith Lutheran Church from 1965 until 1998 when he retired.
Before his passing in October this year, Langseth was involved in many community organizations and initiatives including Main Street Calumet. Langseth may best be known for his work to help found the Keweenaw National Historic Park and establishment of the endowment fund supporting the Keweenaw Heritage Center at St Anne’s Church. Langseth was also a founding member of the Keweenaw Community Foundation.
Langseth lived a life that encouraged a sense of community, volunteerism, and service. Main Street Executive Director Leah Polzin reflected upon working with Langseth on the board of directors. Remarking on his fearless pursuit of progress. Additionally, Langseth was determined to create long-term sustainability for the organization and encouraged residential involvement in determining redevelopment goals in the Calumet area. The Reverend Robert and Deloris Langseth Development Fund will aid Main Street Calumet’s mission to preserve, promote, and develop Calumet and the surrounding area through financial support.
