Keweenaw County Recorded 60 Inches of Snow in January Over a 10 Day Period

With no snow on the forecast for today, January 2024 will end with the average for the monthly snowfall total. Since the onset of winter in the Upper Peninsula communities and residents have longed for more snow. December offered the region a disappointing total ending with 10 inches of snowfall during the month in Keweenaw County.

January’s around-average snowfall added a little more than 68 inches of snow to the season’s total. Of additional note, an overwhelming majority of the month’s snowfall came over ten days. From January 11th and 20th, the Keweenaw County Road Commission counted 60 inches of snowfall. The region entered above-freezing temperatures soon after the snowstorm ended hitting a high of 35 degrees on the 24th. Residents can expect unseasonably warm temperatures for a few more days with the National Weather Service – Marquette predicting highs above 35 degrees through next Monday.
