Artists Submissions for the Big Annie Statue Close on Friday

The final call for artists’ designs for the Big Annie statue will close at the end of the week. Over the past year, the Big Annie Statue Committee has been working to raise money to erect a statue of the “American Joan of Arc” in her home of Calumet. Annie Klobuchar Clemenc was an activist during the Copper Country Strike of 1913, leading the local Women’s Auxiliary No. 15 of the Western Federation of Miners. Clemenc was the first person nominated for the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame and was inducted in 1996. Forty years after she died in 1956.

The Big Annie Statue Committee has asked artists interested in designing the state to submit an original work with a 300 dpi JPEG file no larger than 6 inches. Artists should keep in mind that designs will also be used for promotional materials for the statue and future fundraising. The committee will then judge art submissions before announcing the final design later this spring. Those interested in submitting their design proposal to the statue committee can find more details here.
