Proposal One Defeated 80%-20%

Michigan voters were asked Tuesday to increase the sales tax a penny to help raise $1.2 billion for roads and their answer to Proposal 1 was a resounding “no.”

Nearly 80-percent of voters voted “no” compared to just 20 percent that said “yes”

Despite the loss, Governor Rick Snyder says he plans to stay after the issue. He says he’s been pushing the issue of funding Michigan roads for a few years and he’s not going to stop.

Roger Martin of Safe Roads Yes, the group that promoted the proposal, says the message to come out of Prop 1’s defeat is that voters want the Michigan legislature to get back to work and come up with a solution to fix the roads.
