Michigan Senate Approved Budget

The Michigan Senate has given the go-ahead to a nearly 54-billion dollar spending plan.

The budget, which breaks down to $15.9 billion going to education and the remaining $38 billion going to state departments, was approved on mostly party line votes.

It does not include some of the fee increases the governor wanted as lawmakers hadn’t decided what to do about those yet.

The House passed its budget last week.

The next step is for the two budgets to go before a conference committee made up of lawmakers from both chambers.

Legislative leaders hope to have the budget process wrapped up by early June.
