The majestic beauty of the Porcupine Mountains inspires artists each year. Applications are officially open for the Artist in Residence program in spring and summer 2024 and fall and winter 2025. The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park encompasses 25 miles of Lake Superior shoreline four inland lakes, rivers, countless waterfalls, and an escarpment that slowly rises above Lake Superior until plummeting down near the Carp River Valley. The Porkies 60,000 acres of wilderness include impressive stands of old-growth hardwood forests teeming with natural life that would inspire any artist. The artist-in-residence program in the Porcupine Mountains offers writers, composers, and visual and performing two weeks to explore the park and create their artwork.
