Area events looking for volunteers

Two fitness events happening in the next month are on the lookout for volunteers. One is a staple of the area, the other just getting off the ground. Canal Run takes place on July 17th and a list of the roles still available can be found online. Some of the tasks that need to be filled are manning the water stops and monitoring traffic as a member of the Road Patrol. A couple of jobs, such as stuffing packets with bibs and other race materials, require volunteers earlier that week.

Mary Kaminski is organizing the inaugural Verna Mize Triathlon on August 7th. She was just given the greenlight for the event, after presenting the idea to the Houghton City Council in June. Because of the swimming portion of the race, Kaminski needs people in place to help support the Coast Guard or sheriff department personnel overseeing the half mile route.

I absolutely need two lifeguards to be on the shoreline, on the dock. I am guessing 16 volunteers will be a nice round number, two lifeguards, and the experts I have in this field.

Kaminski can be reached by email: beach@up.net.
